
In an era shaped by generative AI, algorithmic personalization, and pervasive platformization, youth and children’s lives are more digitally mediated than ever. From AI-assisted writing tools and recommendation systems to biometric surveillance in schools, young people navigate complex digital ecologies that shape how they learn, communicate, and express themselves. Young learners creatively, critically, and at times invisibly or playfully participate in digital life. They also resist, reshape, or withdraw from these technological systems.
We know that power, surveillance capitalism, and algorithmic bias disproportionately impact some bodies more than the others. In this blog, I explore how literacy and learning are evolving as children and youth engage with digital technologies across intersecting local and global networks in a rapidly shifting technological landscape.
